spouse dependency visa

• I am a South African who has obtained a work permit to work in the UK. My husband is of Indian nationality. We are both currently living in South Africa. Is it possible for him to get a spouse dependency visa and come along with me to the UK at the same time that I leave? He currently has temporary residency in South Africa. He will be completely dependant upon me. What are the possible reasons he could be refused a dependeny visa? how long does the dependency visa take?
