Nursery school in Belgium
-
Hello, my partner and I and our baby are moving to Antwerp next year. Does anyone have advice on how to enrol our son at a nursery day school and how much this is likely to cost? Any info and/or contacts much appreciated. Many thanks.

Nursery school in Belgium
Hi Nursery School in Flemish Belgium is free from 2 ½ years onwards and is actually part of the formal school system; so it depends on how old your baby is when you get there!
You can contact schools directly and, unlike the UK, you don’t need to live in the catchment area for the schools. We went and looked round one in the Xmas holidays after the head teacher was kind enough to meet up with us.
We just drove round the area where we wanted to live and wrote down the names of schools, most have websites so they are easy to contact, but I do think that it pays to have a feel for the area first.
There are two main types of state provided infant and junior schools in Belgium Basis and Vrij Basis Schools (secular and Catholic respectively), plus a range or Steiner and Freinet schools as well.Micky www.gibboncore.com 07 Jan 2009, 09:53 - Report
