You are 100% right but the problem is not only for Americans. I am EU citizen (Greek) and i have the same difficulty to find a job. I was Tax Accountant with 9 years experience in Greece. I live now 3 years in Germany and i cannot find a job. Wherever i apply i get the same answer : "You do not speak perfect german".
Even now i take german Lessons, i know german grammatic better than a German. But i cannot be a native Speaker.
