Basic healthcare does not cover dentistry, orthodontia, or optometry costs, and you must pay for their services unless you have supplemental insurance.
Dentists
Top-quality dentists work in private clinics run by the Clalit health fund. There are over 70 dental locations available to Clalit members and non-members alike. Maccabi and Meheudet also offer dental services. If you do not have health insurance, you may want to see one of these fund dentists. They charge lower fees, but the quality of care is lower.
Orthodontists
Orthodontia is not covered by any basic public health insurance. The Clalit and Maccabi health funds offer supplemental insurance for orthodontia. Patients who do not have supplemental coverage should start saving for orthodontia. In comparison to dentistry and optometry, orthodontia is expensive in Israel.
Opticians
Over half the population in Israel wears some form of eye wear. Nearly three million people need eye care, and opticians have many locations in big cities and smaller towns. Most opticians work in private clinics. No health fund offers supplemental insurance for eye care.
