obataining resident permit

• how can i obtain a resident permit or extend my tourist visa valid for 90 days after arriving in holland?what are the available options to get that resident permit.
  im coming to holland on a visitor visa because i have an invitation letter.is it easier to enrol as a student or what is the best option?please advice.
