If you want to get a landline telephone connected, the easiest way to do this is by going to a telecommunications shop; they can be found in most city centres, KPN seems to be the most widely available.
When applying for a phone line you will need:
- Proof of identification
- Residence permit or employment contract
- People from outside the EU pay a deposit for a telephone number
Once you have made an appointment for an installation, be sure to be at home on the day and hour you are given. The Dutch are very punctual and tend to arrive at the given time. They will not wait and will charge you for a second visit.
You should check with your chosen service provider as to what rates and offers will suit you best. Combination packages with telephone, television and Internet are often cheaper than buying everything separately.
