Landlines in New Zealand are called “fixed lines”. If you want to be connected to a fixed line at your house, simply call your chosen telephone company (the number will be in your local telephone directory).
In order to connect you, the telecom provider requires the following information:
- Your name
- Proof of address
- Details of your previous address and employer
- Date of birth
- Address of a relative or friend in New Zealand as reference.
Usually it takes 24 hours to get connected to a fixed line. This is if your house already has a line. If your house does not have a line but there is a existing line nearby, it usually takes about 48 hours to get connected. If there is no line near your house, a mobile telephone or satellite telephone might be an alternative.
