Passport expires in 7 months... will I be ok?

• Hi, I'm coming from the US and arriving in the UK in November. I plan to stay for a week, and it didn't occur to me that I would have a problem until I read recently that some countries insist that your passport have at least a year more on it. Mine expires in something like May 2009, will I have a problem?
